Corona Cigar Company

Corona Cigar Company is based in Orlando, Florida owned by Jeff and Tanya Borysiewicz. Corona Cigar Co. uses the social media application Facebook to promote and communicate to new and existing customers. Corona Cigar Co. uses Facebook to post pictures, polls, include brief information about the company, along with the ability for customers to post on the company's wall.
Cornona Cigar Co. target audience are persons 30-55 years of age which works because Gen X'ers are becoming a large part of  Facebook.

Many sources I found do not support tobacco and social media. According to Tobacco Promotion Includes New Media tobacco companies deny promoting their product via social media. Social Media is used to prevent smoking through YouTube. As I searched Facebook I found some cigarette interest pages that promoted the brand however these pages were created by fans and not through the official company. The Pall Mall cigarette website lacks Twitter and Facebook widgets. However, Facebook host many cigar company pages, though cigar and cigarettes have the same health risk according to Smoking Helper.

Aside from the negativity associated with smoking, those who choose the lifestyle can stay connected to their favorite cigar company. Below is a video describing how Corona Cigar Co. uses Facebook for promotions:

Screencasting Example

I chose the screencast tutorial on Rockmelt the new "Social Browser." Rockemelt allows you browse the web and stay logged on to your socail network sites. The person in the screencast is describing the what Rockmelt is used for and how you can stay in touch with your friends on Twitter, Facebook, and other social network sites. Rockemelt allows you to easily share links and post with Facebook friends and Twitter Followers. Rockemelt allows you openly chat by clicking on the the person's face in the side bar.

Screencast are better than written or verbal directions because you have the visual. If software has been updated you can view the difference in the screencast.  You can slow, stop, fast forward or rewind, when watching a screencast as well. I believe screencast are the best way to give instructions for new software.

Week 5- Facebook Perspectives

 DHS MEET TOM
A new gossip arena surfaced the hallways of Dunwoody High School ,as if enough drama did not exist already. Who is dating? Who's no longer friends? Who's pregnant? Who got into a fight and why? The Who's Who of DHS transcended unto MySpace.com.

Personalization of your page, music, and the ability to edit your circle of friends with a few clicks of a mouse were the features offered by MySpace.com; the teenagers dream journal.  MySpace and all of its glory also allowed that student that never found their niche to gain popularity by staying updated on the latest gossip and create an image for themselves opposite from how their peers knew them.

ANNALYSCE MEET MARK
I too became a MySpacer. MySpace celebrated individuality. It never left you alone because I always had friends, old, new, known and unknown. My mother felt differently. She saw it as a direct link to predators who sought after young rebellious teens such as myself. However, my innocent mind only focused on "everyone is doing it." MySpace was the Middle School to High School, meaning I knew one day this site would phase out because there was this new site, an exclusive site that you could only get on if you had an older brother or sister or friend that invited you to THEFACEBOOK.COM. Facebook was the new goal. The downside I had to be in COLLEGE! The eagerness I experienced until I received my college email was agonizing! Alas! Facebook! Initially it was not all I thought it would be, no background layouts, no theme songs, and no Top 8...wtf! I was disappointed needless to say, but hey "everyone is doing it." So I created my Facebook profile, uploaded some pictures and changed my relationship status (was dating my high school sweetheart then) and I was in the money. Aside from the lack of creativity and blandness of my page I relished upon the discovery of a STATUS! If this how the college kids expressed themseleves so did I! Not to mention that only college students were allowed so Mom would have have like this social site! Facebook's popularity and expansion has allowed me to track my growth and maturity, maintain a digital photobook of my life and reconnect with old friends, new friends, known friends, and those unknown. I keep up with church events and news, correspond with classmates, and I can stay involved and be seen on campus thanks to the EVENTS  feature. Yes Facebook.com is the homepage for my life. I can stay in touch with the world and friends with only a few clicks of a mouse.

SEE FACEBOOK IS GOOD...
Yes Facebook is time consuming however it's not all bad. Recently I stumbled upon Black Girl's Guide To Weight LossI LIKE this site  because I am a Black Girls and I need a guide to weight loss. This site answers all of my questions and soothes my fears about becoming healthy such as how to manage my hair and exercise, how to loose weight in all the right places so I don't end up looking like a Black Kate Moss, and recipies that include more than a piece of celery. I share this site with groups that I am apart of like my family group titled Fit Friends. Facebook offeres many other pages I Like  but this is my favorite!

Week 4- Favorite Youtube Video

Nothing is for Nothing is my favorite poem of all time, of course with a few others but this tops them all! This poem reveals a layer of my woman experience into maturity, self love, and romantic relationships. This poem is uncut! I love it! This poem voices the shared experience of many women young and old who unwillingly yet consciously subject themselves to men as a means to feel a void, be it love, satisfaction, the need to be accepted. It says what some women won't admit to; the fact that as you are waiting or exploring relationships you release who you are to fit the mold of a man. However, it is important that a woman not subject herself to the likeness of a man nor should he subject himself but they subject themselves together and compromise. Yet before a woman enters into this relationship she knows who she truly is and for Jill Scott its a FREAK "cuz that what I [she] like(s) and I like being what I like and what I like is all apart of who I am!"

Week 3 Blog-Favorite Sites

Blogger seems to be a cool site but my favorite sites are Facebook. Facebook helps me to stay in touch with my friends, family, and church family. I can see pictures of friends who are engaged or having children and plan family reunions. My family being on Facebook is GREAT! I can see pictures of my cousins and actually my Grandfather's side of the family is using to plan a reunion.

I do not like but often use the West Georgia , CourseDen, and MyUWG websites. These sites allow me to stay updated with school, fees, and track my graduation. These sites are also good because I can access them through my phone while I am on the go!

Week 3 Blog-Intro Blog

Hola! I am Annalysce Baker! Hmm I am self proclaimed cool yet my close friends think otherwise. I am currently a senior at the University of West Georgia and I am sooo ready to graduate! I am due to graduate on my mothers birthday (July 30th, 2011). I intern with Carroll County Schools doing Public Relations and aspire to do public relations for a metro county soon after graduation.

The post I make are for my Digital Social Media and Society class therefore content for my blogs will consist of assignments for this class.

This my first time using Blooger.com. I mainly use Facebook and occasionally Twitter. Facebook is wonderful way to keep in touch with my friends, family, and church family. I use Twitter when I want to stay updated on the most current events and my peers. I work a lot and following my peers on Twitter helps me stay in the loop. I recently got a Linkdin. I am not sure how to use it, but I want more connections so I figure it's great for me be apart of.
In the past I used MySpace because it was the cool thing to do in high school and wonderful yet passive way to tell people you didn't like them when you removed them from your Top 8. I was on Black Planet too. Looking back, I really had no business being on those sites. SMH! I was WAYYYY too young!
